Alexander Bukh is a Senior Lecturer in International Relations at Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand. He holds an LLM in International Law from Tokyo University and a Ph.D. in International Relations from the London School of Economics. Alexander has published extensively on Japan’s national identity and foreign policy, and territorial disputes in Northeast Asia. His articles appeared in journals such as the Pacific Review, Asian Perspective, European Journal of International Relations and the International Relations of the Asia-Pacific. Alexander is the author of Japan’s National Identity and Foreign Policy: Russia as Japan’s ‘Other’ (Routledge 2009) and a co-director of a documentary film on Dokdo/Takeshima dispute related activism in Japan and Korea. Alexander is currently completing a book-length manuscript on territorial disputes and civic activism in Japan, Korea and Taiwan.
