Herlin Chien

Herlin Chien is an associate professor and Vice Dean for Office of International Affairs at National Pingtung University of Science and Technology. She holds a PhD in political science (2008) from National Sun-Yat Sen University, Taiwan and is pursuing a second PhD in Sustainability Science at United Nations University, Japan since 2018 focusing on urban river restoration governance and urban commoning. Her other research interests include public private partnership, citizen engagement, policy change and sustainable development.

Her most recent publication include: “Winners and Losers in OBOR as Public Private Partnership – A Reflection on Sustainable Development of Lao PDR” in Hong Kong Journal of Social Sciences (2019); “Reducing Emissions, Forest Management and Multiactor Perspectives – Problem Representation Analysis of Lao REDD+ Programs” in Forest and Society (2019). In 2018, she co-edited Southeast Asia: Beyond Borders and Boundaries. Since 2006, she has been visiting scholar at Ecole Normale superieure de Lyon, France; University of California, Irvine, USA; Shanghai International Studies University, China and Thammasat University, Thailand. In 2020, she serves as conference organizing committee co-chair for International Sustainable Development Conference 2020 .
