Alvin Y. So is a sociologist who taught at University of Hawaii before his present affiliation with the Division of Social Science at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. His research interests include development, class and class conflict, social movements, and Greater China (mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan). His recent publications include The Global Rise of China (with Yin-Wah Chu, Polity Press, 2015), Class and Class Conflict in Post-Socialist China (World Scientific, 2013), Handbook of Contemporary China (co-edited with William Tay, World Scientific, 2012), Hong Kong’s embattled Democracy: A Societal Analysis (Johns Hopkins University Press, 1999).
