Mark Sidel

Mark Sidel is Doyle-Bascom Professor of Law and Public Affairs at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a long-time researcher of civil society and the nonprofit sector in China, India, Vietnam and in comparative Asian perspective. 

He has particular interests in regulation and self-regulation of civil society; barriers to overseas funding; and domestic fundraising regulation, among other topics, and has authored, co-authored or co-edited a number of books and articles in these areas. 

Sidel served with the Ford Foundation in Beijing, Hanoi, Bangkok and New Delhi earlier in his career. He is a former president of the International Society for Third Sector Research (ISTR) and is currently a board member of the International Center for Not-for-Profit Law (ICNL).
