Akanit Horatanakun is a Ph.D. candidate in Political Science at McGill University, Canada. His research focuses on the interrelations between social movements and political parties and how they lead to different human rights consequences over time. His writings can be found in journals such as Contemporary Southeast Asia, Democratization, Journal of Current Southeast Asian Affairs, and New Mandala. Before joining McGill between 2014-17, he served as a policy and advocacy lead at Amnesty International Thailand, where he advocated for human rights policy and legislative change and supported the mobilization of activists and social movements for democracy and human rights under Thailand’s autocratic regimes.
